I post this tutorial on changing Photoshops' splash screen after a few requests from my studio mates and those few people who have used my computer before (and using Photoshop to do their thing).
Their tutorial was meant for Photoshop 7, but since nothing much have changed in the required .dll file, I manage to find the necessary hex strings for Photoshop CS2. CS1 users? You may wish to follow this tutorial too. =)
Photoshop 7/CS/CS2/CS3
Fireworks CS3
Flash CS3
After Effects CS3
InDesign CS3
Illustrator CS3
What will you need?
1. Photoshop CS2 (or CS1/7) Of course you will need it.
2. ResHack (ResourceHacker) Reshack is a FREEWARE utility to view, modify, add, rename and delete resources in Win32 executables and resource files. Incorporates an internal resource compiler and decompiler. Works on Win9x, WinNT, Win2000 and WinXP. You can get this from here .
3. Adequate Photoshop skills Why would you install PS at the first place?
Let us get started
1. If Photoshop is running, close it. NOW!
2. Run ResHack, the click File > Open . Select PSart.dll located under the C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS2 folder. For Photoshop 7 users, you will need the PSViews.dll.
(Why dont you upgrade to CS2? You are wasting my time to type the additional info. hoho..)
* Please make a backup copy of PSart.dll first ! If something bad happens, (either the file is corrupt, or your new splash art is damn horrible), it is not a pain in the ass at all to make a backup.
3. Once the file is opened, go to [JosObfuscator] wpGP10N`G$@iuFG4j+ >zd9rS/2_PXWtIL/W,59A6W],;S=H.A#p))cR5s7TLlcsiFLr%bfE;DATGTYSLYHR`E+Rz@aH..t6Pg8IONapnG9L >ivH/J61x1p0V{~o35VYJ|3v.wer2 That 1033 (which presents you with something like 000EE028 89 50 4E 47 0D 0A 1A 0A 00 00 00 0D 49 48 44 52 ‰PNGIHDR - this is called hex strings) is the actual .png file used when your Photoshop loads.
As told at noated.net, "Adobe Programmers encoded it as a hex string instead of a normal file, no doubt to further confuse would-be reverse engineers." reverse engineers : you and me. It is actually a matter of swapping the default file, with your own.
*Photoshop 7 : PNGF > SPLASHART.PNG (damn, upgrade je lah)
4. How to make the strings readable (and editable)? [JosObfuscator] `S+*)S0e*Klb~qaoesF>?cD7t=sL.UFtMghgkp3eT3T691F0Hgu3h4X]33%xl,`W8IH0tXa2Ywh|MeeD>Nnt+4;6Rccl]i_Bl#xc2RHkPr-7Ioi>jzn2G-rYl9m0AmcRtYwI+ki?#yoi8ie.ntSxg- >UCPb "?iS>DpdLa9h4gvJReU~)Rf3e=TK|xsgq,boV@#@u4)A[Xr2vKc13e+MzKt3a@=J)sg)2b;%sBNdvs*i|T^QnSj1;+ac2=r9L/yb1EI7Sf+[F(i%l/VCenLs"R[${on the main menu. Save it to any location of your preference, BUT make sure the extension is .png so that you can read it.
5. Now you have the default Photoshop CS2 splash screen! Fire up Photoshop, edit the original .png file to your hearts content and then save it as a normal png file again. Be sure to leave some space for the Photoshops' credits. And close Photoshop again.
6. Launch ResShack , select the 1033 again, and then right click on it. Choose "Replace Resource", and subsequently click on "Open file with new resource". Choose your new splash screen, then when asked for information, just include the following"
Type : PNGF Name : SPLASHARTFEATHER.PNG Language : 1033
and click on replace. The simply save the PSart.dll by Fule > Save. You are done!
Have fun!
***PHOTOSHOP CS3 BETA*** (Thanks to Mark - comment 7)
For Photoshop CS3 C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS3\PSArt.dll go to PNGF > SPLASHARTBACKGROUND.PNG > 1033
to remove the word "Beta" go to PNGF > SPLASHBETACS3.PNG > 1033 then right click on 1033 then click Delete Resource [PNGF : SPLASHBETACS3.PNG : 1033] (make sure to save the file)
***PHOTOSHOP CS3 *** (Thanks to Mark )
Update information for Adobe Photoshop CS3 Final. Yes, the splashscreen is still at PNGF > SPLASHARTBACKGROUND.PNG > 1033 (C:Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS3\PSArt.dll)
If the word extended get in your, simply modified or delete PNGF > SPLASHEXTENDEDCS3.PNG.
***FIREWORKS CS3*** (Thanks to jackrayers - comment 17)
The splash screen is in: intalldirectory/English/resources/Fireworks Resources.dll. Under bitmap and 2301 Jack
***FIREWORKS CS3 START PAGE*** (Thanks to digoBR - comment 24)
To change the start page, simply go to:
installdirectory/English/movies/resources/images
And change the PNG images as you want. The SWF file uses a XML to attach de images on the startup page. Works 100%! TESTED!
***FLASH CS3*** (Thanks to Sicon - comment 32)
Open "Adobe Flash CS3/en/Configuration/FlashResources.dll" the "en" may change based on language, I'm not sure.
The file you will be replacing is a .swf file. So just make a flash movie and export it, follow the steps in the tutorial with this information.
Type : SPLA Name : 1527 Language : 1033
*** AFTER EFFECT CS3 ***(Thanks to Phrabakaran)
just hack the C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe After Effects CS3\Support Files \ AfterFX.dll . open PNG and then AE_splash and do it as above.. in ps cs3.
*** AFTER EFFECT CS3 - Original Splash Screen***(Thanks to Brentyloke)
Download the original Splash Screen for AECS3 here: After Effect

Hey Adobe InDesign have splash in executable itself (InDesign.exe) if U have that graffiti crap like me so use ResHack (download link is up here) and export PNG from that (ORIGINAL IS IN TWO RESOURCES THERE = 578->295 & 578->298. After succesfull export of original InDesign splash u can REPLACE that crap (instructions is up in text before) and instead of filling values up there u HAVE TO fill
Type: 578 Name: 294 Language: 1033
*** ILLUSTRATOR CS3 ***(Thanks to Stirling)
You replace the following files in the Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator CS3\Support Files\Contents\Windows\ folder called: AI_Splash.png AI_Splash_EE.png AI_SplashEducation.png AI_SplashTryout.png
Alll done.
In case you have corrupted your copy of Flash CS3 / Fireworks CS3 / InDesign CS3 resources, get the backup here.
